Great American Track & Field Series Meet # 4 2025 (07/23/2025)
Last meet of 2025 ended in a season best of 7.19m. After 3 jumps in CT with the best mark of 6.73m, and running an 11.66s in PA. I have a redemption in NJ! But this redemption was a tough fight.
This is a meet with only 4 jumps, and I have the tendency to leave my best jump at the 5th and 6th jump. I am still developing the skill to get the best mark in my first 3 shots, which is essential. Competing at a higher level, 6 jumps will not be a guarantee. Getting a great mark done early is the only strategy to secure a spot in the final. Today is the perfect opportunity to equip this skill.
First 2 jumps, headwind hit hard. I was behind the board by a foot. I definitely tried to wait until the wind stopped. I did a decent job on that. Yet the wind went strong again in the middle of my run on both jumps. 6.59m 6.64m and a messy mind full of self-doubt and frustration.
You know what’s the best way to stop myself from overthinking? Right, the clap! The benefits of engaging the audience are that I can clear my mind and hype myself up. The downside is obviously the possibility of losing control. I said Let’s go, clap, then just sprint. Dropped a season best 7.19m. Happy but not super happy, I can’t celebrate until I smash my PR. I clapped again, fouled, and accepted the fact that I did not smash my PR. Then, I start celebrating! Finally ended the series of meets, and am now excited to debrief this amazing season.
